01 · Concept

A new relationship between power and risk.

The Corruption System adapts the idea of corrupted equipment to a Legion environment, adding a new layer of itemization without replacing Legion's existing class, gear and progression identity.

👁️
Corrupted Power

Items can gain special effects that increase offensive, defensive or utility potential.

☠️
Void Risk

Every Corrupted item contributes a measurable amount of Corruption to the character.

⚖️
Player Choice

The goal is a meaningful decision: how much additional power is worth the additional danger?

02 · Equipment

Corrupted Items

Corrupted equipment keeps its normal item identity while receiving an additional Corruption layer.

Normal Item Data

Item level, armor, primary stats and secondary stats remain part of the original item.

Corruption Value

A numerical value determines how much Corruption the equipped item contributes.

Special Effect

The item may grant a passive, proc, stat modifier or combat ability.

03 · Character Calculation

How Corruption is calculated

The system scans equipped items and builds a live Corruption total. Equipment changes can trigger an immediate recalculation.

Base Corruption = Sum of Corruption from all equipped Corrupted items
20Item A
15Item B
50Item C
20 + 15 + 50 = 85 Base Corruption
04 · Resistance

Corruption Resistance

Resistance is the counterweight to corrupted equipment. It reduces the amount of Corruption that actively affects the character while allowing the player to retain the item's positive effect.

05 · Negative Effects

Corruption Thresholds

Effective Corruption determines how aggressively the Void can interfere with the player.

1+

Grasping Tendrils

The first visible sign of Void influence. The character can suffer a movement-related penalty.

20+

Eye of Corruption

A dangerous Void eye can manifest around the player, creating an area that must be avoided.

40+

Thing from Beyond

A hostile Void creature can appear and pursue the player, turning Corruption into an active combat threat.

60+

Cascading Disaster

The consequences become significantly more dangerous and can compound existing Corruption mechanics.

80+

Inevitable Doom

Extreme Corruption introduces severe consequences and makes high-risk builds substantially harder to control.

200+

Inescapable Consequences

The extreme end of the system, reserved for players who deliberately push their Corruption far beyond normal levels.

06 · Positive Effects

Power worth risking for

Corruption is meant to create new build possibilities. The player accepts the downside because the upside is valuable.

07 · Ranks

Choose how far you want to go.

Higher ranks can provide stronger versions of the same effect while increasing the Corruption investment.

Infinite Stars I

Corruption: 20

Infinite Stars II

Corruption: 50

Infinite Stars III

Corruption: 75

The design principle: the strongest effect should not automatically be the best decision. The player must consider the entire Corruption budget of the build.
08 · Gameplay

Corruption in raids and dungeons

Negative effects are designed as gameplay mechanics, not merely character-sheet penalties. Positioning, movement, awareness and encounter execution all become important when running a high-Corruption build.

Legion environment references are included to keep the presentation visually grounded in the expansion the custom system is being built for.

09 · Player Management

Cleanse & Corruption Management

A planned Cleanse feature will allow eligible corrupted items to have their Corruption removed. The trade-off is straightforward: cleansing an item also removes its associated Corruption effect.

🟣
Keep Corruption

Retain the powerful effect and accept the additional risk.

🧹
Cleanse

Remove the Corruption and return the item to a safer state.

🛡️
Build Resistance

Invest in ways to control the Corruption without giving up every corrupted effect.

11 · Philosophy

Power has a price.

The goal is not to punish players for using Corrupted gear. The goal is to make every powerful choice meaningful.

A player should be able to build for safety, build aggressively, or deliberately push toward extreme Corruption. The best choice depends on the class, role, encounter and the player's ability to manage the Void's consequences.

The closer you get to the Void, the closer the Void gets to you.
